Dr. Sophia Omokany

Dr. Omokanye is a Catholic theologian turned ethnographer exploring Christianity, with a focus on Nigerian Pentecostalism, the relationship between space and sound in urban contexts, and transformative processes shaped by digital environments. Her work employs ethnographic and qualitative methods to foreground people’s ideas and lived experiences. A former Arts and Science Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, she is now a researcher at the Institute for World Church and Mission in Frankfurt, Germany, where she leads the research area “Intercultural Theology.” She earned her PhD in Catholic Theology from the University of Salzburg.
